Daisies in My Jar and Yarn on My Needles

Well since I have to be up before the chickens now, I lose a lot of crafting time now. I work from approx 4am till approx 11-12noon Mon thru Fri now (I use to be able to take the same days off as my husband but now my boss has a ton of research for me to do this summer and so now I can't until January - but I dare not complain because I get to work from the comfort of my rig).

And so today is my last day of work (shhhhh I got to take this Wed/Thurs off but no more). And so after I completed my work day - I decided to start on a new set of mittens. LOL but the phone kept ringing and time kept creeping by and so here is where I am at. I also want to thank Pat from Campground_Crafter for helping me today with a knitting question. It means a lot to me when someone of her skills takes the time to help little ole me.

This summer was suppose to be about learning new skills and I am so failing in this department - Sue a lady who is working for the same company as my husband is also from Campground_Crafter has taught me one stitch and I am grateful for that. And so now I am pushing the issue and turning to youtube and my personal videos I've purchased to learn more. After all this is more then just a hobby for us. We do run 4 stores and would like people to continue to purchase our things and to be able to ask if I can make something and I can jump up and say - That? Heck yes I can do that up for you.

And so today after finishing up with my work - I head outside with my husband and sat to knit. After dinner (we eat outside as we do most days) my husband was looking at the table he made (yep it's a poor mans table but you know what? It was made with love) and says "Wow your knitting is so natural and beautiful". And so he snapped a pictures and here's what it looks like.

I love it. And so tomorrow with my having the entire day off - will work on the rest of my project and get her up for sale ASAP.... But oooooh there is a 40% chance of rain tomorrow - so it maybe a movie day with knitting (hey either way I am knitting and for me that's a dream come true)...

QUESTION OF THE DAY:
Did you know that Daisies are my favorite flower and so
what is my 2nd favorite flower?

Trial and Error Mitten

Knitting is a bit of a challenge for me and yesterday I had told you all that today I would attempt my first mitten set. Well as any good crafter knows "trial and error" is the secret to our success lol... I know where my boo boo's where made and so tomorrow I will go forth and start making them for the store. So here is the mitten I promise my viewers... Again this was all about "trail and error"... No tears but dang knitting 2 stitches together was a challenge because it was tight and hard to do... Other then that it wasn't that bad....

May for Me Practice SHOULD make Perfect

So today was suppose to be Jorge's day but we have a new schedule for our May for Me..
Monday: Jorge
Tuesday: Evielynne
Wednesday: Jorge
Thursday: Evielynne
Friday: Fun Day
Saturday: Follow-up for the week
Sunday: Church Words

So with it being Thursday I decided to take on Knitting... A simple pattern from Buddy Bears to Knit.

I started this at 11am and worked up until about an hour ago and I am sorry to report I need a lot of practice... A LOT!! The poor things is just NOT CUTE... I was going to give my Bear to JuneBug my cat but then decided that I am going to attach a key ring to and put it on my backpack. Why Not?

I should say something positive about today's project. I have never casted on after or added stitches to a working progress - So I rock at that now. I have never binded off with out using crochet hook and I can now bind off. So there you go I succeeded in my quest to learn something new!! Job well done and my pat on back is now done....

Now on with the giggles....

Jorge and I where chatting up a storm today and I had said "you know this May for Me is so good for us because it's allows me to challenge myself and put aside my fears. It forces me to put a time frame and do the best that I can on my chosen project" And it's working sort of lol... Will I make another? Sure only this time I will use a bigger needle - this was done on sports yarn and using a size 4 needles - I have never worked on a project with small needles before.

Crocheting and Knitting Hand TIPS

Customer are often asking me how I can work so much with my hands and not complain about the pain. It's simple - I don't get pains. Like with any labor job if you want to continue doing a good job you need to take better care of yourself. Otherwise the younger folks will sweep away with your job. And so I exercise my hands and fingers not just before I start a project but many times a day. I watch my husband struggle with RA www.ra.com and I really do have to respect him because it's hard to do any form of crafting with his condition - trust me he's in pain 24 hours a day.
I think that's why I push his items more then my items in our stores because he works with pain and I feel it's worth the sales. The shots to help him deal with the pain is over $1500-2500 depending on the brand per shot (shot last for 3-4 months before a new shot would have to be given) without insurance in which he is one of millions that do not carry it. Don't worry he'll have some with in the next month thanks to Medicare because of his disease.
I do have insurance because I am a diabetic type 1 and require to be on insulin (lucky me 2 types of insulin I am on) up to 3 times a day on a bad day but only twice a day on all other days. This is over $400 a month in expenses even with the crappy insurance program. So as you can imagine our stores mean a lot to us...
So taking care of our hands are most important to us because our depended income. I will go over the exercises that we do first and then talk about the cream we use and how you can buy your own.

MASSAGE HANDS, WRIST AND FINGERS
I always do this first and dry (do not add lotion). I will use my thumb and do mini circles around the entire wrist. And then grip the wrist and rub. And then I will do the same thing over the entire hand and then work my fingers with a slight pull (not too hard) and take each finger bending and moving them in circular motion. I work each hand for a least 5-10 minutes per hand.

MAKING FIST MOTIONS
I will do this for about 10-20 seconds. make a tight fist. Make a fist and hold position for 10-20 seconds. And then release the pose and relax your hand for about 5-10 seconds. Repeat to 5-10 times (I do it 15 times)

CIRCLES
Take your hands and make circles going the same direction for about 10-20 second and then switch directions. Do about 5-10 of these. This helps loosen up your wrist.

WAVE
Now you know how to wave of course but instead of waving side to side. Flap your hands from back to forward (like your going to slap me lol).

MASSAGE
One last time very quickly. This time it should feel a little differently.

LOTION ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE YOU START YOUR PROJECT FOR THE DAY
It will take about 20 minute to have fully dry hands... And if you work with yarns you know how important it is to have dry hands when working on a project. Some yarns are very scratchy and having moisture of any kind enhances it big time

I use BLUE-EMU (my husband winter boss got us hooked on it this winter).. Like I said this works for me but doesn't do a thing for Jorge. http://www.blue-emu.com/ will explain how it works and all the information to why you should use it including info on it's omega rich oil. I am telling you how it feels - I love it... My hands feel free and loose and I wish I could slop it on my whole body but at $17.99 a container is just too expensive for me.  You can pick this up from any www.walmart.com in the country. The best part is that the cream is ODOR FREE

When I crochet or knit I have been know to put in 8 plus hours into any given project - so maintaining good hands is very vital... And it's never too late to start!!

Comic Books for Knitters

I was so jazzed to get my new comic books in the mail today... In fact out of all my mail this was the first to be opened up because I was so excited. And there sat two comic books and a knitting pattern just for me...
They have a Facebook FAN  page CLICK
And if you are a RAVERLY member they have a group you can join so just click the link to join:  http://www.ravelry.com/groups/handknit-heroes/

You can find me on there as well http://www.ravelry.com/people/MrsCraftyRVing

I haven't started reading them yet... I can tell you the paper is high quality and the art work is just amazing... The writer is Stephanie Bryant and both Jorge and I are lucky to call her friend. We know Stephanie from a little campground_crafter group we belong to and almost 2 years ago we got to meet Stephanie and her husband John back at Lake Siskiyou when we worked for Reynolds Resort. They have the best beer there (loved there tangerine beer).  She also taught me how to spin yarn and was so sweet she gave me her spinner - I will never get rid of it ever...

I have a ton of crafty friends and hope you go check out their web site/facebook/raverly... Stephanie an amazing knitter and she just won 2nd Best in Class at the Clark County Fair for her parasol (I wish I could post a picture because it's down right genius work).

I bought my subscription and I am so glad I did... I mean how cool a knitting comic book... Get yours today..

Crocheting vs Knitting

How do I choose....
5 to 1

So you see by the picture that I have 5 knitting videos and only 1 crocheting. But would you believe I know more crochet stitches then knitting stitches. Knitting is wonderful and I love it but it scares the hell out of me. If I where to choose between the two - I prefer to knit. It's such a beautiful art. One that has to be mastered and one that I am far from bragging rights... Crocheting for me is quick and easy and seems to be a money maker for me. Now if I can master knitting then maybe I can bump the income level up a bit and not cringe of fear when someone ask me to make lets say a sweater, a pair of socks... These are my dream items to make. blankets, hats are easy for me now and I am ready to take the plunge to learn more. Oh summer hurry up and get here - I am so excited about seeing my friend and summer teacher (she has said I will get my first sweater done this summer with her help).

My current KNITTING project...

The knitting project I am working on is a knit 4, purl 4... I like the bubble effect and will make a wonderful scarf for me... It's a little different for me, but I am loving the challenge. I am left handed and so it's been a real challenge for me to knit because I had a right handed teacher (most people are right handed). I can crochet left handed and right handed but again because my teacher was right handed I do all of my crocheting right handed (it freaks left handed people out). I can play baseball both right handed and left handed - batting or catching... Strange and I know a freak...

Oh gosh watching Wyatt Earp right now and so when I hear a bang, I have to pause to watch... eek I love Westerns big time...

So OK the knitting videos I have are a bit old style - you can tell by the gals freaky colored nails... I find it very distracting to be honest trying to follow along with the video.  So with that in mind do read tonight's question because I really could use some help in this area....

Past and Present Skills of my Life

Past and Present Skills of my Life...

Back to elementary terms and quotes kids. So I apologize if I get the name of stitches wrong and such. I am one of those who learn best by watching someone else crocheting/knitting/beading - you know stuff like that. However my art work by hand in wood burning is all me....

So two years ago I started teaching myself how to crochet. I really, really tried to learn from my mother in-law but the language barrier was too much for me. Her strong Cuban accent was just to hard for me to understand and her little fingers went way too fast. Two years later I think the sweet lady would be proud...

I have come a long, long ways from day one. LOL my squares where anything but squares. I couldn't get my ends to match to save my life. Oh I would cry (I am so not kidding) and throw my crochet hook on the floor or at my husband - today we laugh at those memories and his puck marks from the pings on poor Jorge. and the worst was when I was learning the granny square - I know I have mention this before here. And so with the reminder of my terrible crocheting fits now lets add knitting to the scene. But you know what? Knitting was so easy for me...

So why do I crochet more then I knit? It's easy - I enjoy it more and I can do so many cute little things faster - and faster means money... In the last two months I have made it a point to learn one new thing a week when it comes to the yarn world. I am so happy now because I am even starting to read patterns now without screaming because what the heck is a HDC? Ah-ha I know now Half Double Crochet.... LOL I know you crochet experts think I am a turd but these things do not come easy for me. Truly I work my hardest on my projects and pour my love into it.

Today I was watching a crocheting video and was repeating the steps in (which I got on the first try) out loud and my husband says "Wow honey you really know this stuff now - don't you?" And then follows with "I am so proud of you". Which brought up the talk, about how much I have improved over the last two years.

The one thing that any crocheter or knitter needs is support. No matter the level - really in any form of crafting, support is so needed. These things whether advanced or easy takes  lots of time to make and I'm sorry we are paid so little for the labor that goes into any project. And so I ask myself "why do I put myself through this?" EASY I love yarns.... I love advancing - and I love when people ask me for to make them a handmade item. That about pride and pride is allow in the crafting world.

I love thinking about the "Past" of my crocheting world and have had many laughs on how silly I was and often enough say "Oh yeah I've made those same mistakes" and loving in the "Future" when someone calls out for advice or for help or even better a sale because they just had to have one of my treasures...

My newest item I now know how to make is.... A way cool flower!!
I can crochet and surf the web at the same time!!

Labeling Your Products Means You Take Credit For Your Work

I've been doing a lot of custom orders (thank heavens for friends because its them who has helped my business the most) of late and mailing them and then moving on. Well this morning I got to thinking about seeing one of my hats on someones head. And then walking up to them to say "Hey I know that hat" but then how do I prove I'm the one who made that hat? And the pouting begin but only temporary because the light bulbs and many duhs entered my brain. Get some labels and label your products...

Simple - I know. So the search began. I do not support any big companies anymore and only buy from crafters for items that can be handmade with love. It's my way of giving back and helping thousand of crafters who depend on their crafting to bring extra income in - I know this myself for we so depend on our sales in the winter months -  for dear hubby is not a payroll and so there you go. And I only get paid quarterly which makes things very interesting to say the least.

I found a site on etsy and wow - I made my first purchase with them. Mountain Street Arts. I need to up my game with my products and start taking some credit for the hard work I do put into my items. I am so terrible about pimping myself and worrying about helping others that I put myself last. I just can't do that any more. We need the income to much. So Mountain Street Arts has all sorts of labels for knitting, crocheting and care label. The store has 1246 sales under their belts and so my blog wouldn't help them much because their game is so on. Maybe they can teach me a thing or two about succeeding in sale. But I am up to 53 sales since June - I'm a slow starter I know - but there is still hope for me yet.

Here is what I ordered... 30 labels for $12.00 and only .50 for shipping. But it will say MrsCraftyRVing instead of Pam of course lol... http://www.etsy.com/shop/mrscraftyrving (I did just sell something in my store for $3.50 so you can imagine how I really need to step my game up. Hotdogs for dinner tonigh - lol well no we don't eat them or steak as much... etsy is wonderful place to shop - everything from shampoo, creams, gloves, blankets, label, office gear, gels and oh my lots and lots of weird stuff like the vase way below... Scroll down to see it... I've included a link in case it's a MUST HAVE thing for you!! OK so what weird or helpful thing have you ever bought from etsy? Leave comment below and do stop by these shops and tell them MrsCraftyRVing said hello...
