Pink Crafting

From time to time people will take the time to email us with suggestions of new items to make or colors to use and such. Well this morning was one of those days. Pink!! Must have more pinks in the stores... Well which is funny because my friend Holly of Mission Montana Blog had order some products from my store and she asked me if I did cozy's for cups? ummm yes once but they where for kids. So I offered to make her some for FREE (after all she's my friend and expert to sizing up things and offered to let me know what she thought). Well I did her package and it's in the mail and with today's email I thought "I've got to make myself my own cozy". I like one of the styles I did for Holly and made the same patterns...

What do you think? I was seeing what they go for on etsy. And almost all of them where going for $10.00 - in which I will sell on there for BUT if anyone orders through my blog I will give it to them for $5.00. I only take paypal for payments. So comment me - email me if you wish to order.

Now Jorge my wonderful husband got in on the act today as well. Going with a pink theme he decided to do an outfit (he would of done more but the winter boss really needed his help - he's out there now making noise with the weed whacker) well 2 outfits but the same material... I so love the tube top stitching. And later today I will put them up for sale.. But what do you think?

Aren't these just so cute... We need to have 75 different outfits done by July 4th - just in time for the Christmas Season. Of course any and all sales are welcomed year-round.

I was reading a blog about YARNBOMBING http://yarnbombing.com/ and it will be part of today's question... I just want to say from my personal feelings - that if this is done for charity and with the permission from the property owner, I support this. But when these individual trespass and do this form of art - they are forgetting one thing - it's no longer art but vandalism.

Crocheting Something New

Mrs Chicken Pants - and yes we are talking about me.... Tried something new today.  People ask me all the time if I crochet toys and such. And my answer has always been "As if" lol I am so insecure about my abilities in creating anything new when it comes to yarns. But I do try at a very snail like pace lol...

"MAY FOR ME" is coming up and I am trying to get all of my patterns in place and pre-doing projects so that they go smooth for the whole month. I figured Barbie Clothes would be something easy to do and well it just isn't. Not for a beginner like me that is.

I haven't gotten my bins yet and so I am trying to fill my time with getting custom orders done and fitting in fun time where I can learn these new things. I will admit today was a chore for me. Mentally I kept telling myself - "Nope can't do it" & "Nope I suck"

So here is what I suck at....

Well not a total bust but certainly in need for some major practicing. These will go up for sale tonight at http://www.etsy.com/shop/mrscraftyrving and maybe someone in the etsy world will think I am a genius with the crocheting hook - one can only hope...

I have a feeling in May I will be pumping out some cool new things - all toy themes... I've always wanted to learn how to make handmade crochet/knitted toys. The time it takes to make them and the love it takes for someone to buy them all equals true treasures....

This store is a major fan of vintage. Rule of thumb for vintage is anything that's over 20 years old. I guess I am 2 times vintage - lol... But do check out this cute store and tell them MrsCraftyRVing said hello....

QUESTION OF THE DAY:
How old where you when you got your first Barbie or Ken doll?
Would love to hear (I was 10 - I know older but I just wasn't into dolls - kind of am now)...

FREE PATTERN used to Clock Crocheting Speed

FREE PATTERN PROJECT - Crochet Cocoon
I am set to do this project tomorrow - it will be about speed and so I will be timing myself to see how long it will take me. I'm a pretty fast crocheter and I want to work on getting faster - you know the old saying "time is money and money is time"...

My guess is 4 hours..

Note: Do NOT turn after Joining. Ch 2 at first of round counts as a DC. If you have counted correctly your 2dc space with be made in the first stitch of the 2dc stitch on the row below.

For all sizes:
Chain 3

1: Dc 11 times in the end chain. Join with a slip stitch. (12 Dc made)
2: Ch 2, DC in same space, 2dc in each stitch around. Join. (24 DC made)
3: Ch 2, Dc in same stitch, (Dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch) around. Join. (36 Dc made)

4: Ch 2, Dc in same stitch, (Dc in next 2 stitches, 2dc in next stitch) around. Join. (48 Dc made).

5: Ch 2, Dc in same stitch, (Dc in next 3 stitches, 2dc in next stitch) around. Join. (60 Dc made)

6: Ch 2, Dc in same stitch, (Dc in next 4 stitches, 2dc in next stitch) around. Join. (72 Dc made)

7: Ch 2, Dc in same stitch, Dc in each stitch around. Join.

8: Ch 2, Dc in NEXT stitch and each stitch around. Join.

For 5-6lb size:

Rows 9-24: Repeat Row 8, for 24 rows or until cocoon reaches about 14″.

For 7-10lb size:

Rows 9-28: Repeat Row 8 for 28 rows or until cocoon reaches about 18″.

For babies a little larger or for a 0-3mos size, you may use a size I hook with worsted weight (SOFT please!) yarn and continue cocoon until it reaches 24″ or desired size.

Now, finish off or for girls you may add a shell or picot edging. I don’t for boys but that is up to you. For Boys you may add a few rows to be turned down at the top, or simply stop at row 28 or so.

Past and Present Skills of my Life

Past and Present Skills of my Life...

Back to elementary terms and quotes kids. So I apologize if I get the name of stitches wrong and such. I am one of those who learn best by watching someone else crocheting/knitting/beading - you know stuff like that. However my art work by hand in wood burning is all me....

So two years ago I started teaching myself how to crochet. I really, really tried to learn from my mother in-law but the language barrier was too much for me. Her strong Cuban accent was just to hard for me to understand and her little fingers went way too fast. Two years later I think the sweet lady would be proud...

I have come a long, long ways from day one. LOL my squares where anything but squares. I couldn't get my ends to match to save my life. Oh I would cry (I am so not kidding) and throw my crochet hook on the floor or at my husband - today we laugh at those memories and his puck marks from the pings on poor Jorge. and the worst was when I was learning the granny square - I know I have mention this before here. And so with the reminder of my terrible crocheting fits now lets add knitting to the scene. But you know what? Knitting was so easy for me...

So why do I crochet more then I knit? It's easy - I enjoy it more and I can do so many cute little things faster - and faster means money... In the last two months I have made it a point to learn one new thing a week when it comes to the yarn world. I am so happy now because I am even starting to read patterns now without screaming because what the heck is a HDC? Ah-ha I know now Half Double Crochet.... LOL I know you crochet experts think I am a turd but these things do not come easy for me. Truly I work my hardest on my projects and pour my love into it.

Today I was watching a crocheting video and was repeating the steps in (which I got on the first try) out loud and my husband says "Wow honey you really know this stuff now - don't you?" And then follows with "I am so proud of you". Which brought up the talk, about how much I have improved over the last two years.

The one thing that any crocheter or knitter needs is support. No matter the level - really in any form of crafting, support is so needed. These things whether advanced or easy takes  lots of time to make and I'm sorry we are paid so little for the labor that goes into any project. And so I ask myself "why do I put myself through this?" EASY I love yarns.... I love advancing - and I love when people ask me for to make them a handmade item. That about pride and pride is allow in the crafting world.

I love thinking about the "Past" of my crocheting world and have had many laughs on how silly I was and often enough say "Oh yeah I've made those same mistakes" and loving in the "Future" when someone calls out for advice or for help or even better a sale because they just had to have one of my treasures...

My newest item I now know how to make is.... A way cool flower!!
I can crochet and surf the web at the same time!!
GIFTED...

Earflap kind of Day

Little by little I am getting a little more brave with trying new things - like crocheting. Today I decided to try to learn how to do earflaps. A customer a ways back offered me a contract to crochet them for her and I turned her down because I didn't know how to make these super cute hats. I turned down money. And that was a big mistake.

But that has so changed now. And the funny thing is - I learned on the first try. Oh my friend Sue sat on my shoulder the whole time whispering "oh you got it girl - remember how hard you thought the granny square was?" And then on the other shoulder whispering was GrandMum saying "I can't believe my eyes" lol.... So crazy but it's one of two things in life I am very insecure about (crocheting/knitting and my weight  - I know some of my friends are rolling their eyes says "As If" but it is what is...). So it takes me a long time to build up courage to try anything new in the yarn world. And today was one of those days...

And I am pretty happy with the outcome. I have this deal on etsy in regards to one of my customers that whenever I come up with something new she is to see it first. And sure enough within 30 minutes of posting she bought it and emailed me asking for more. Jorge will tell you I get very emotional when blessings like that hit MY door. I will start making some more Wednesday - tomorrow I have to start the cocoon order... So here is my pics of the items I made today....

Tonight's etsy feature is something I choose because of what Jorge said about the brown hat (it's sold already sorry - but email me for details or visit http://www.etsy.com/shop/hatmasters ) that he says looks like a pilot hat and wants me to make him one - bigger of course. And some of you may not know this but Jorge is a pilot. So this feature is because of Jorge **thanks honey I love you**

So Sleepy Today

Crochet today and watched movies and sort of took a nap - well light sleep for about 20 minutes. I am heading to bed early tonight. LOL Jorge is napping right now but he has to clean later and so I am keeping very quiet so he can get a little more then 20 minutes of heavy sleep. Tomorrow is a loaded day for me - I have an order that will take me about 5-6 days to complete and then off to be shipped. So the much needed sleep will be welcomed tonight!!
