Making Money with Quilting

My husband was asking today if he could make money with his quilting - ummmm? I am not the one to ask and so I poked around on the web to see what info I could get.
Patchwork Quilting Business and so check out my question of the day....

A Quilting Joke I found on the web today
The quilter died and went up to the Pearly Gates. (It doesn’t start well, but it gets better….) There, she was faced with a choice: she had lived her life so that she could either go to Heaven, or Hell – her choice. She was pretty sure this would have all been decided by now, and she was pretty sure where she wanted to go, but she was also a very curious quilter.
She asked Saint Peter if she could just take a look at what might be awaiting her in Hell.
They entered a huge room (anyone ever been to the Houston Quilt Festival? Bigger than that!), with tables and chairs. There were quite a few pleasant looking quilters sitting everywhere. But it was what was in the middle of each table that caught her attention: a wonderful huge pile of fabric. She thought she’d died and gone to Heaven!!!
She made up her mind on the spot, and turned to Saint Peter: “I know that Heaven is probably very nice, but I’ve decided that I want to stay here, thank you.”
As the door closed quietly behind him for all eternity, everyone at the tables turned to her with a smile on their faces and said, with one voice:
“Did you bring the needles?”

My friend Becca sent this poem to me via email this morning and had to share
It begins with
a chair
a swivel chair
gliding with ease
spinning creations

behind me
a table
to plan
arranging
rearranging

to my right
a cutting board
a rotary blade
here I shape
quilted dreams

before me
a machine
and thread
vision stitched
into form

to my left
an iron
a board
pressing seams
of my design

a spiral turning
scraps
into form
piecing a quilt
piecing my life

  1. If you come up a way to make Money quilting -- Please let me know! I started my quilting business in 2003 and I have quilted over a thousand quilts I quilt full time 5 days a week -- but do I make Money??? NOPE - But I LOVE my job! You gotta LOVE what you do!

On a serious note --- I have seen quilt tops for sale on Esty. People must buy them as I have quilted them for customers.

    Hope that helps!

  2. Hi, this Jamie from "trendy pockets" blog. I saw that you asked about the word art that I do, they are 8x10, it comes with glass, but plexiglass could be used I'm sure if you wanted to switch it out. I don't have an etsy account, but I do accept PayPal. The price plus shipping would be $10, with as many words as you want and an embellishment if you wish. You can e-mail me back at trendypockets@hotmail.com with any other questions you may have. Thanks!

  3. It is not easy making money quilting. Not at all. You have to find something unique. My placemats and my photo quilts are my unique thing. But I don't think any quilter ever really makes a ton of money. Fabric is expensive and quilting is a lot of work!
