Making Money with Quilting

My husband was asking today if he could make money with his quilting - ummmm? I am not the one to ask and so I poked around on the web to see what info I could get.
Patchwork Quilting Business and so check out my question of the day....

A Quilting Joke I found on the web today
The quilter died and went up to the Pearly Gates. (It doesn’t start well, but it gets better….) There, she was faced with a choice: she had lived her life so that she could either go to Heaven, or Hell – her choice. She was pretty sure this would have all been decided by now, and she was pretty sure where she wanted to go, but she was also a very curious quilter.
She asked Saint Peter if she could just take a look at what might be awaiting her in Hell.
They entered a huge room (anyone ever been to the Houston Quilt Festival? Bigger than that!), with tables and chairs. There were quite a few pleasant looking quilters sitting everywhere. But it was what was in the middle of each table that caught her attention: a wonderful huge pile of fabric. She thought she’d died and gone to Heaven!!!
She made up her mind on the spot, and turned to Saint Peter: “I know that Heaven is probably very nice, but I’ve decided that I want to stay here, thank you.”
As the door closed quietly behind him for all eternity, everyone at the tables turned to her with a smile on their faces and said, with one voice:
“Did you bring the needles?”

My friend Becca sent this poem to me via email this morning and had to share
It begins with
a chair
a swivel chair
gliding with ease
spinning creations

behind me
a table
to plan
arranging
rearranging

to my right
a cutting board
a rotary blade
here I shape
quilted dreams

before me
a machine
and thread
vision stitched
into form

to my left
an iron
a board
pressing seams
of my design

a spiral turning
scraps
into form
piecing a quilt
piecing my life

My Husband and His Quilts and a PRIZE GIVEAWAY

GiveAway Contest information is at the bottom of the article - I just wanted to show off my husbands skills first...

Like OMG I have a husband who can quilt... It's been a while since he's done a square or two but I wanted to share with all my readers some pictures of his old quilts made only 2 years ago. His very first quilt he made was for me and it's a KING SIZE - can you imagine that? NUTS! But he pulled it off.

As I am typing these words a thought occurs "Who taught my husband how to sew" and so I looked at him and asked. And he smiles with a proud statement and says "No One - I taught myself".... And now I want to hide in a hole because I was taught in school and I am no where near my husbands skills.

LOL wow back when Jorge had hair.
But this is proof a king size quilt
can be made in a 24 ft rv..

This is his second quilt he ever did - also a king size quilt.
The colors where not to match
and is done to make it look like a hobo quilt
 - the theme of the this quilt

Jorge did a his and her 9-patch lap quilt and I still use it today
 - this quilt is almost 2 years old

I like the his theme better then the she theme 9-patch quilt. He was saying yesterday he's getting the itch to make one but wants to sell them but to be honest storage is a problem. But if a reader see this and wants one he'd be happy to do a custom order for sure - make and ship is what we can do...
His email is Jorge_Sanchez1956@hotmail.com
for quotes and information.

Thrift Store Crafting

Today I only manage a half a hat all while on our way to The Dalles, OR... I keep my yarn and crochet hook in a freezer bag to keep it clean and more organized for on the go. Works out pretty good too!!

We did hit a couple of thrift stores in which is normally a great place to get cheap patterns and in this case they where on a quarter each. I was looking for doll clothes and failed at finding any. We didn't have a whole lot of time to spend in the stores due to my friends husband being at the dentist office (poor guy).

We did get to go the yarn store called "The Whole Ball of Yarn" I found out that they have a blog on the web and you can check them out http://downtownthedalles.com/blog/the-whole-ball-of-yarn/ BEAUTIFUL but very expensive yarns.... I think it was the first yarn shop that I walked in with no yarn and walked out with no yarn - I don't like that feeling. Empty and so alone.... lol aw maybe next time. My etsy store would have to be pulling in big numbers first. What's wonderful about the store is their classes they offer. They had a spinning wheel that was a little under $400 and came with 4 hours classes.

And then we hit a quilters shop http://www.grandmasatticquilting.com/ and we just fell in love with everything they had. A beautiful green unique apron was their grand entrance - just beautiful and very retro... Jorge of course loved all their fat quarters - which he uses for his barbie doll clothes making. My favorite was the lady bug everything they had lol...

I love thrift stores and truly its a great place to start building your inventory, recycle crafts (which is so in right now and will continue to be so) which equals a huge saving if done correctly and to be super creative. I am personally looking for used men's ties for a up-coming project but need about 20 of them and a $1 a pop is a little to much money and so I will wait till I cross one or two at a time at a yard sale and go from there. Using cool shirts/skirts and such for doll clothes will be utilized but first we have to get more storage bins to store them - in a 24 ft rig we have to be very selective as to what to store. aw the life of a RVer... Loving it!!

 therecyclingethic's Shop Announcement

Happy March. It is raining like crazy where I am. Wherever you are, I hope you're well.
Thrifting has become especially challenging lately. I am so busy with everything in my life that it just doesn't fit :( But I am eagerly looking forward to the next couple weeks when I will be traveling south to Visalia and hopefully getting a move on my next edition! Stay posted!
I make shipments on Mon, Wed, and Sat mornings, always with recycled materials, and I appreciate feedback and suggestions. My "Etc." section represents my recycling ethic-let no thing go to waste.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:
What item have you bought from a thrift store to craft with?
